Aims
The work of the department has its basis in two fundamental aims which are centred on releasing individual potential at all levels:

  • Developing active life skills
  • Personal and social development

 

Objectives
These aims are broken down into the following objectives:

  • To encourage and develop skill in a variety of sporting and creative activities.
  • To provide pupils with a range of activities and help them develop a broad repertoire of movement experience.
  • To involve pupils in the continuous process of planning and evaluating activities.
  • To maximise the growth and development of all pupils according to their ability.
  • To arouse in pupils a desire to continue active participation in health - promoting physical activities into adult life.
  • To develop awareness of others, respect for others, co-operation and desirable standards of behaviour and conduct.
  • To develop positive attitudes to personal health and fitness.
  • To provide opportunities for pupils to learn in a variety of ways by adopting a teaching styles.

These objectives are achieved in four ways:

1. A BALANCED curriculum consisting of

  • Games
  • Gymnastics
  • Athletics
  • Outdoor and adventurous activity

2. An EXTENSIVE extra curricular programme including:

  • Specialist Teams
  • Recreate activities
  • Inter-form competitions

3. The use of TEACHING METHODS that cater for the needs of pupils of ALL ABILITIES.

4. A well developed system of EVALUATING, MONITORING and REPORTING pupil achievement.
